After practicing privately and independently in Orange, CT since 2012, Michael Crane formed Broadview Counseling and Assessment LLC to expand mental health and educational support services for children, couples, working professionals, and families. He offers educational consulting and advocacy, behavioral health counseling, and psychological testing in our Milford office.

Michael greatly enjoys working to improve outcomes of individuals with a wide range of presenting problems at all levels of the developmental continuum, as well as supporting families in the role of educational advocate for school-based issues. Michael is licensed in the State of Connecticut as a Licensed Professional Counselor and is a Certified School Psychologist in Connecticut. He holds a Master of Arts and 6th Year professional certificate in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut Neag School of Education. He received his Bachelor’s degree with a focus on psychology from Central Connecticut State University. He also holds a certificate of education administration from the University of Bridgeport and is currently completing a doctorate in International Education. His dissertation is a quantitative study assessing principal personality and its influence on effective leadership. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, the Connecticut Counseling Association and the National Association of School Psychologists. He has received training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for adolescents.

Michael worked for twenty years in public schools as both a school psychologist and special education administrator. His primary roles were chairing PPT meetings, counseling, psychological testing, determining eligibility for special education, and developing IEPs. He was a leader for PBIS schoolwide intervention as well as the primary mental health provider at numerous schools. He was a frequent member of Section 504 meetings, behavioral health consultations, Crisis Team meetings, Climate Committees, and a provider of DBT. Michael has experience working with individuals of all ages with social, emotional, behavioral and adjustment difficulties. His specializations in counseling include anxiety and depression with adolescents, and men’s issues. He also offers couples counseling and reunification counseling. His therapeutic orientation is generally cognitive and behavioral in nature.

As a result of the high frequency of students struggling during the pandemic, Michael expanded Broadview to provide private special education services in reading and executive functioning from certified special education teachers.

He lives in Orange with his wife, three young children, and Bernadoodle Niles.
